Steps to apply: transfer student

Thinking about transferring schools? Discover how easy it is to bring your credits to NAU and start the next chapter of your college journey with flexible programs, strong support, and a campus community that feels like home.

Submitting your application: step-by-step

1. Review transfer student qualifications

Who qualifies as a transfer? You’re a transfer student if you’ve completed 12 or more college credits after high school (not including dual enrollment). If you’ve earned fewer than 12 credits, check out our first-year admission requirements.

2. Review the admission requirements

You will be admitted if you meet any of the following:

  • You’ve completed an AGEC-A, AGEC-B, AGEC-S, or IGETC curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • You’ve earned an associate degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • You’ve completed 24 or more transferable college credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • You’ve completed 12–23 transferable credits with a college GPA of 2.0 or above and a core high school GPA of 2.0 or above

Note: If you’ve completed an AGEC, IGETC, or CSUGE, you’ll have satisfied NAU’s lower-level general education requirements—but you’ll still need to complete upper-division writing and major-specific courses.

3. Learn about the 2NAU progam

Still working on your associate degree? Our 2NAU program is a seamless pathway for students at partner community colleges across Arizona, California, and beyond. You’ll get personalized advising, access to NAU resources, and a clear plan to transfer when you’re ready.

4. Apply for financial aid

  • Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after it becomes available each fall. NAU’s priority filing date is April 1. (You can complete your FAFSA before applying to NAU.)
  • Be sure to include NAU institution code 001082.
  • Renew it each year to qualify for many types of financial aid.
  • Undocumented students who are ineligible to complete the FAFSA can complete the CSS profile using NAU school code 4006.
