Louie’s Cupboard

No student should have to choose between buying groceries and affording their education. Louie’s Cupboard is a student-led food pantry dedicated to supporting the NAU community by providing access to nutritious food and essential resources.

Louie’s Cupboard is the NAU community helping students and staff by providing perishable and nonperishable food and resources.

The concept of a campus food pantry started with a class project geared towards social movements. Louie’s Cupboard now serves hundreds of students, staff, and faculty each year through biweekly food distributions. They provide nonperishable canned and boxed goods, fruit, meat, beans, pasta, grains, as well as eggs, fresh fruits, vegetables, and bread.

Food assistance programs

Grab-n-go bags

Quick, nonperishable meal kits with items like rice, canned fruit and vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, canned meat, and pasta.

Biweekly food distributions

Fresh produce, nonperishable goods, bread, hygiene products, spices, cookware, and even cooking demos with recipe kits.

Mini programs

Additional resources include the Brown Bag Lunch Program, the Snack for Jack Program, and pocket pantries stocked with snacks and hygiene items across campus.

Community support and collaboration

Louie’s Cupboard is powered by the generosity of volunteers, donors, and campus partners. We collaborate with local organizations and NAU departments to expand food access through programs like:

  • SNAP assistance: Guidance on applying for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
  • Meal Swipes for Jacks: A program allowing students to donate unused meal swipes to those in need.
  • Volunteer opportunities: Join us in making a difference by assisting with food distributions, stocking shelves, or organizing donation drives.

Other resources in the Flagstaff area

The Flagstaff Family Food Center is another resource in town providing hunger relief and working to increase food security in the community.

  • Free, hot evening meals daily from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
  • Food boxes available between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Individuals and families can receive food boxes twice per month as supplies allow.
