Parking
Getting around campus? We’ve got you covered. Whether you’re a student, faculty/staff member, or just stopping by, NAU offers a range of parking options across campus to make your visit easy. From daily permits to long-term passes, University Transit Services helps everyone find a spot, so you can focus more on your day and less on where to park.
Manage My Parking
The “Manage My Parking” portal allows NAU students, faculty, staff, and visitors to easily purchase permits, manage their parking accounts, and access parking-related services all in one convenient online platform.
Parking permits
A university parking permit is required to park on campus. Permit requirements are posted at the entrances to all lots.
Fall 2025 permits will go on sale Monday August 4, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
Annual permits are effective August 15. We use license plate recognition (LPR) system on campus and therefore all vehicles must park with their license plate facing the drive aisle. Parking garage permit holders will continue to use a sticker to enable gate access.

Student parking

As a student, there are several parking options to choose from based on your needs. Whether you live on campus or commute from off-campus housing, you’ll find parking lots located conveniently around campus. Students must purchase a permit through our “Manage My Parking” portal to park in designated areas. Choose the right permit based on your class schedule, location preference, and how often you drive.
Frequently asked questions – student parking
How does it work?
Your license plate acts as your permit and therefore must face the drive aisle. Cameras, mounted to university service vehicles, capture the plate information and check to ensure the plate is associated to an active virtual permit and is in the correct location.
How many cars can I have on my virtual permit?
Accounts will be limited to five active license plates at any one time. However, vehicles can be added or deactivated from the virtual permit at any time using the online portal.
Can I share a parking permit with my friend?
Semester or yearly permits may have up to five vehicles registered to them, with only one vehicle displaying the permit parked on campus at any given time. Additional vehicles associated to the permit may park on campus simultaneously by utilizing any short-term or daily option (meters, garages, etc.) and displaying a valid permit. Permit owners are responsible for citations that are issued to any vehicle displaying or registered to their permit without regard to the operator of the vehicle displaying the permit.
Do zones sell out?
Yes, R2 and NC (behind Cline Library) zones sell out quickly. Often a waiting list may be created. Permits go on sale in early August and you can reserve the permit without paying for it until tuition and other fees are due in the fall.
Why are parking garages not getting a virtual permit?
Physical permits are necessary to open the gates. As technology changes, moving to a virtual permit may become an option. As the campus is using License Plate Recognition, the license plate must face the drive aisle when parked in or out of the garage.

Conference and department guest/visitor parking
University departments may order parking permits for guests. There are two types of permits: Departmental (effective date written when needed) or Conference (date and event specific). These permits are available through the parking office and may not be given to university students, faculty or staff.
Construction
Anyone performing a construction or maintenance project on campus is not considered a visitor and must follow all parking rules and regulations. The contractor must work through their NAU representative or project manager to assess parking needs that will allow for parking permits to be issued. NAU project representatives or university project managers must submit a request form. The form must be submitted at least two business days in advance to ensure the capacity for parking exists to accommodate your needs.
Vendor
Vendors visiting campus are required to display a valid parking permit. Vendor parking needs that cannot be met utilizing one of the short term options can be discussed by calling the University Transit Services office at 928-523-9066.
ADA-accessible parking
ADA-accessible parking spaces are available throughout campus and require both a valid university parking permit and a state-issued disability placard or license plate. These spaces are strategically located near campus buildings to ensure convenient access. For individuals with temporary mobility needs, NAU offers short-term disability parking permits. These permits can be obtained with appropriate documentation and are valid for up to two weeks.
Additionally, during special events like commencement, designated ADA-accessible parking areas, such as lot P66 near the Skydome, are reserved to accommodate guests with disabilities.
