Nursing program loans
If you’re an upper-level nursing student at NAU, you may qualify for special loan options designed just for your program. These loans can help cover tuition and other expenses as you complete your clinicals and coursework. They’re limited and have specific requirements, so it’s worth checking if you’re eligible.
How the Federal Nursing Loan program works
A limited amount of Federal Nursing Loan funding is available each year to eligible students enrolled in NAU’s Nursing Program. Select students may receive up to $8,000 per academic year ($4,000 per semester).
To be considered for priority funding, students must:
- Complete the FAFSA by April 1 (no separate application needed beyond FAFSA)
- Demonstrate financial need based on FAFSA results
- Be accepted and enrolled in the final two years of the Nursing Program (Pre-Nursing students are not eligible)
- Enroll in at least 12 credit hours (Concurrent enrollment students must have an approved Consortium Agreement)
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
Please note: Meeting all criteria does not guarantee loan funding, as resources are limited.
Lending requirements
If awarded a Nursing loan by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, you must complete two steps in order to receive the loan:
- Complete entrance counseling online
- Sign a Master Promissory Note
The steps for completing the Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Notes are available to students on their LOUIE online student center under the To Do List. Please allow 24 hours between signing the promissory note and completing entrance counseling for LOUIE to update your To Do List.
