FAFSA, federal, and need-based aid
Use this section to find deadlines and info related to applying for aid, accepting loans, and submitting financial aid forms.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- FAFSA opens October 1.
- NAU’s FAFSA priority filing date is April 1. Students are encouraged to submit as early as possible to maximize aid.

Consortium agreements
To ensure processing before financial aid disbursement, submit completed consortium agreements by the deadlines below:

The final deadline to submit a consortium agreement is 7 days before the 100% tuition refund date.
Once you apply and receive your NAU credentials, specific term dates are available on Student and Departmental Account Services.
Scholarships and grants
Explore deadlines and requirements for various scholarship types, including freshman, transfer, tribal, and merit-based awards.
NAU Foundation and additional scholarships
Applications for non-merit-based NAU scholarships generally open in January and close in April each year for the following fall semester.
Freshman tuition scholarship deadlines
- Accept your offer of admission and pay your enrollment fee to be eligible.
- Final high school transcripts must be submitted to Admissions immediately after graduation.

Tribal scholarships
Indigenous Lumberjacks may qualify for scholarships or other aid directly from their tribe or tribal organization.

Priority is given to students who submit their application to scholarships@nau.edu by:

Disbursement and processing
Financial aid disbursements occur Monday through Saturday, beginning 10 days before the first day of each semester or summer session.

- Deadline for 2023–24: April 10, 2024
Budget appeals
- Deadline for full academic year or spring 2024 budget appeals: April 1, 2024
