The CAL experience

Study what matters to you

Here, your education is personal. You’re not choosing between your interests and your future, you’re building both. From performing in a play while majoring in engineering, to pairing anthropology with museum studies, our programs are designed to fit your life and amplify your goals. Every CAL major and minor encourages you to ask questions, push boundaries, and explore what you love.

Learn with purpose and impact

Our students are driven by big ideas, and they care about making a difference. Whether you’re studying literature, philosophy, art, or music, you’ll be encouraged to think critically and globally, gaining the kind of depth and creativity that no algorithm can replicate.

Put your learning into action

At CAL, learning extends beyond the classroom. Through hands-on experiences, global programs, and career guidance, you’ll connect your studies to real-world challenges and opportunities.

  • The Martin-Springer Institute, where students examine lessons from the Holocaust and connect them to today’s social justice issues through exhibits, educational outreach, and research.
  • The Interdisciplinary Global Programs (IGP) pair degrees in STEM, business, hospitality, or psychology with language and culture studies offering students international work experience, two degrees in under five years, and a year abroad immersed in another culture.
  • The NAU Art Museum, offering hands-on experiences in curation, collections management, and gallery operations.
  • Support from CAL’s career coordinator, who hosts workshops, visits classes, and offers one-on-one advising encouraging students to start preparing for meaningful careers early on.

Take the next step

Donor support gave me an opportunity to become more confident in different kinds of environments. Coming from the Navajo Nation, there was little diversity or resources in my community and school, but at NAU, there are both. The extracurricular clubs that I participated in gave me the opportunities to travel off-campus to gain volunteer work experience, and this brought me out of my comfort zone.
